Tucked down a narrow stone-walled road in southeast Menorca, you'll find Biniarroca, an elegant and rustic 18th Century country house re-imagined as a stunning rural boutique hotel. Through the transformation, much of the original character was preserved with traditional features such as red clay tiles, guillotine windows and lush gardens filled with native flora. The two artists who acquired the house did everything with the utmost taste and care, creating a stylish, 18 room retreat with 2 sparkling pools and a renowned restaurant. ROOMS
The 18 rooms (doubles, deluxe rooms and suites) come in a wide variety of decoration – from English Edwardian style to Mediterranean rustic and Italian – but all maintain the common denominator of quality and 21st comforts such as air conditioning, heating TV and telephone. All the rooms have been decorated by owner Sheelagh Ratliff, a British former fashion designer, including the garden rooms which feature the spectacular gardens from their private terraces. Suites and Deluxe and Garden Doubles are on a grander scale than the Classic Rooms and the beds are king or queen size.
HIGHLIGHTs
The incredible garden is the perfect accompaniment to this special retreat. Mature rose gardens, luxuriant lavender bushes and abundant bougainvillea create the most serene backdrop, the perfect spot to read a book, be contemplative or simply sit and soak in the surroundings.
There are two jade colored pools, the largest fringed by flowers, loungers, a hammock and a low-key café-bar with shady tables. The freshwater swimming pool is surrounded by flowers, while the Roman-style, green tiled pool enchants the onlooker with a myriad of reflections across its shimmering water.
For the ultimate relaxing experience, there is a resident therapist is on hand offering massages.

WORTH CHECKING OUT
The island’s harbourside capital Mahón – home to grand Georgian-style buildings, British-era castles and forts, and some great restaurants – is a three-mile drive north.
Other nearby attractions include Sant Lluís’ 18th-century windmill, several Talayotic archeological sites, and the well-known Binifadet winery. The nearest beaches lie about six miles south.
If you are looking to venture out of the hotel, horse-back riding, hiking, biking and cycling can be arranged, as can boat and car hire.
