Boutique Hotel

La Granja Ibiza \ Ibiza \ Spain

Located in the pastoral interior of Ibiza amid 10 hectares of biodynamic orchards and pine groves is a recent collaboration between Design Hotels and Friends of a Farmer, a group which bills itself as "a creative community forged around the cultivation of art, crops, and inner gardens". A 200 year old farmhouse, marked by classical Iberian architecture with traces of Moorish influences, was converted into a members-only retreat of 9 suites and a private 2 bedroom guesthouse by Dreimeta Design studio led by Armin Fischer. A boho farmhouse aesthetic of minimalist elegance permeates the boutique hotel in a medley of dark burnt wood, distressed wooden furniture, dark painted walls anchored with slabs of slate and stone. Mediterranean gardens surround the sprawling estate with stone terraces, an infinity pool and an outdoor bar. Pared-down, yet luxurious, La Granja is ideal for those seeking a simpler, quieter way of life, surrounded by good food and company.

Coqui Coqui Coba \ Mexico

If you are familiar with the Coqui Coqui Residences, Boutiques and Perfumeries, then you already know that that everything this stylish couple creates is with an intention of sharing something special, more specifically, a lifestyle of understated luxury. To them, it is the ability to connect to nature, to appreciate the feeling of sand under your feet, being able to hear the birds in the morning, smell the natural fragrances in the air, or being able to see a star-studded sky. Their Coba Residence is no exception. Located in the heart of the dense Yucatan jungle on the shore of a tranquil lagoon sits a 4 room retreat with rough-hewn limestone exteriors that blend perfectly into the natural setting. An astute stone staircase runs up the front of each of the two towers, resembling the ancient design of the nearby Mayan temples. Creating an even more majestic feel is a vine-covered rope bridge and 2 turquoise plunge pools. A beach-side location has the crashing waves, but this remote retreat has the sounds of the jungle to lull you into a relaxed state like no other. It is the ultimate jungle hideaway equipped with all the understated luxuries that you require for your perfect getaway.

Furnas Lake Villas \ Azores \ Portugal

Based on the owners' love for nature and adventure, the family-owned land graduated from a cattle farm into something much more sustainable, a chic eco-resort comprised of 10 modern villas, set in the stunning volcanic Furnas basin. Inspired by the local rustic granaries that were purposely raised above the humid ground, the rectangle shaped villas are set on a series of low concrete pillars above a tranquil pond with beautiful views of the lush surroundings. The 103 acres of property includes carefully tended gardens, dense woodland, hiking trails, a saltwater pool and stables. Considered one of the boldest tourist and architectural projects on the Island of Sao Miguel, it is more than just a place to stay, but a feast for the eyes, and an experience that will last a lifetime.

Hotel La Semilla \ Playa Del Carmen \ Mexico

La Semilla. The seed. Something that you nurture and love. Something that is within all of us, the power to cultivate the extraordinary. That is exactly what the lovely owners, Alexis and Angie, have done with this special space. Instead of developing the property into a large hotel, they kept it at 9 rooms and left a lush garden area for guests to relax and observe the quietness that surrounds. They encourage the slow approach, to reconnect with the earth, each other and yourself. The rest of the property follows suit and is the perfect mix of a simple, refined design, and laid-back atmosphere. Paying homage to the local culture, they embraced a design reflective of Mexican heritage fused with organic forms; sourcing vintage furniture from Mexican haciendas and handmade mosaic tiles, paired with locally sourced stone and polished concrete. This elegant mix of mis-matched furniture, art, and antiques combined with earthly elements is inspired by the Rough Lux movement, that which embraces the imperfection created by the wear and tear of time. Together, these elements create a quality of timelessness and calmness, of authenticity and warmth.

Riad Anayela \ Marrakech \ Morocco

Named after a note left by a 16 year old girl that was unearthed in the restoration process, Anayela literally means "I am Yela", and with it, a clandestine love story that was hammered into the vast silver doors throughout the house by one of the most renowned calligraphers in Morocco. German entrepreneur Bernd Kolb lovingly restored the gorgeous 300-year-old city palace using only traditional Moroccan craftsmanship, with the entire restoration carried out by hand by more than 100 artisans. In typical palace design, the boutique hotel revolves around a central courtyard with heated limestone pool and features a stunning rooftop terrace that overlooks the historic medina. Complimenting the natural berber-style color palette, the palace is filled with beautiful furnishings, every piece designed by Kolb and finished by Moroccan artisans, creating a hushed sanctuary which is an art piece in itself.
